Longmuir Unfazed by Amiss's Derby Breakout Justin Longmuir, the senior coach of Fremantle, expressed that Jye Amiss's impressive five-goal performance in the Western Derby did not come as a surprise to him. This remarkable feat contributed significantly to Fremantle's dominant 56-point victory over their arch-rivals, West Coast, in the 62nd edition of the Western Derby. Belief in Amiss's Potential Longmuir discussed Amiss's development, emphasizing that the growth of young key forwards is often unpredictable and filled with challenges. However, his faith in Amiss's potential has remained unwavering. “Young key forwards go through their ups and downs. They have to build their game and are presented with different challenges as their careers unfold,” Longmuir stated. “That’s what I’ve seen from Jye. I think he’s had a pretty solid season as well.” Reflecting on the Derby Win While Longmuir was pleased with the comprehensive win, he acknowledged that there is still room for improvement in the team’s performance. “I thought they were tough in the contest and got field position early,” he noted. “We were probably a little bit lucky with some of the missed shots early, but overall I was proud of the way we got the game on our terms and fought through those early challenges.” He added, “Overall, we won every quarter and won the game comprehensively, so we came here and did what we had to do. We’ve still got a bit of work to do on our game.” Upcoming Challenge Against Carlton Looking ahead, Fremantle will face Carlton in Round 7 in the club’s Len Hall Tribute Game on Saturday, April 25, at Optus Stadium. Longmuir and his team will aim to build on their recent success and address the areas identified for improvement as they prepare for this significant match.
